Search locates a missing email but does not tell me where it is, so to see it again I need to search again--every time.
This question, or one like it, has been asked before but none of the posted solutions work. Here's the problem. An email has gotten misfiled. I want to locate it. I do a search and it finds the email, all right, but does NOT tell me where it's located. So I can't move it to where it belongs, and if I ever want to view it again I must do the same search EVERY TIME. How can I determine the folder (complete path!) where the target email is located?

you can get the folder name... not a path. If you have paths with duplicate folder names then you might want to reexamine your filing system.
I don't have duplicate folder names, but I have LOT of folders. It doesn't help me if I can't determine where in the hierarchy the "missing" item is. If I am interpreting the reply correctly, it simply restates the original problem, i.e., it says, yes, you're stuck.
You can get the folder name. Using global search (ctrl+K) You click the show as list entry, then the widget on the far right of the message list. and add the folder name as one of the columns. But that will not give you the entire path, only the folder name the message is stored in. Hence my reply "you can get the folder name... not a path".
As for your storage solution, it sounds like is needs work if you can not locate a folder in your hierarchy. But you might try right click and open message in containing folder from the menu. But I am not sure how that is going to help you in the long run.
Yes, I get all of that. The problem isn't the filing system. The hierarchy is decently organized—it's easy to find things WHEN they are where they belong. The problem is the lack of a good way to find a single item that has inadvertently been MISfiled, usually due to a finger check or mouse error. It would appear that the only way to do that is to manually traverse the entire hierarchy and look at every single folder.

That does open the individual message and highlight the folder at the same time in the folder pane.
