Why do emails from some senders display as bold characters in Thunderbird when they display as normal on the email server?
emails from some senders look normal on the email server but are displayed as bold characters when downloaded to Thunderbird.
I have accounts with gmail, live and btinternet and it happens with all of them, but not all messages, just a seemingly random selection of senders.
Anyone know why this should happen and how to stop it?

Under Tools/Options/Display/Formatting/Fonts & Colors/Advanced, do you have 'Allow messages to use other fonts' checked? For Tools/Options/Display/Formatting/Plain Text Messages, is the Style set to Bold?
sfhowes - thanks for your response. The 'allow messages to use other fonts' box is checked and the style for plain text messages is set to 'regular'.
If you uncheck the 'Allow messages...' box, do the messages still appear in bold?
Afraid so. Still showing bold.
More information:- With some of the emails that display normally when read, if I hit the reply button and the account settings has 'automatically quote the original message when replying' ticked, the original massage is shown as bold in the write panel with the font is shown as 'variable width' and the 'bold' button disabled. If I change the font to 'fixed width' or 'times' the message displays normally and the 'bold' button behaves normally.
Not really sure what to suggest here. Maybe if you check the box 'Use fixed width font for plain text messages' in Tools/Options/Display/Formatting/Fonts & Colors/Advanced that will affect received messages as well as replies.
