Windows 10 sleep mode interrupts music playback with Mozilla Firefox

more options

Hi community!

I have set the energy setup of my Win 10 notebook to switch off the screen after 5 min inactivity and switch to sleep mode after 10 min. When listening to music (e.g. on soundcloud.com) the music playback is interrupted and I have to wake up my notebook every 10 minutes to keep listening to the music.

Interestingly when using a music player (e.g. the Spotify App) there are no such problems. I don't know if Spotify prevents that the notebook switches to sleep mode or if Spotify is even able to keep playing music when the notebook turned to sleep mode but it works.

How can I set Firefox in a way that sleep mode do not interrupt music playback?

Thanks and best

Fred

Is there really no solution for this problem?

Hi Fred, one possibility is that the page is stopping the player when it receives some signal from Firefox. This would be along the lines of video sites that pause when you switch tabs. Another possibility is that Firefox receives a signal from Windows to stop playing; I'm not familiar with how that works. Another possibility is that Firefox keeps playing, but since it didn't instruct Windows to keep the speaker active when power saving kicks in, Windows ignores the audio. Perhaps you can distinguish among these by checking the player when you wake up the system. Has it continued to progress beyond the point where the sound stopped, or did the player stop at that moment?

For testing, maybe use a locally saved MP3 so you can use the full controls.
