I have a Windows XP machine kept solely to run those applications that wont run under Windows 10, and there are several.

It has a hardware switch that removes access to my network and is only connected briefly to print to my network printer then disconnected as the default. It does allow access to the Internet but that is only ever to one particular site, nominally once per year.

One program requires a yearly update to an internal text file from its parent organization. Previously all I had to do was briefly connect to my network access that file from that organization using the Firefox version on the XP machine to download that file directly to the program that needs it.

I tried that this week May 2021 only to receive an error message from somewhere to "Try Internet Explorer".

I have a workaround solution involving my W10 machine and a thumb drive to transfer that 1K text file manually, but the process of direct transfer to the XP machine used to work, and is much more convenient.

What has changed, such that the Firefox version on the XP machine no longer works?

Ideas please.

It is possible that the website is no longer compatible with the Firefox 52 ESR version you use on XP.

You can possibly test this on the Windows 10 computer with a portable Firefox 52.9.0 ESR version.

You can install a portable (ESR) Firefox version. The portable version comes with its own profile folder and doesn't interfere with currently installed Firefox versions.
