I have just downloaded a newer version of Thunderbird and now I have nothing of my email account. Everything has disappeared. the mail will not open and all my folders are GONE!

How do I get all that information back. very disappointed in this program.

If what happened was being prompted to create a new email account, that does not mean all is lost. Sometimes, on an update, Thunderbird is disconnected from the profile, so it attempts to create a new one, even though the original profile is still there with all content. Start Thunderbird, ignore the prompt for new email, click the Home tab, and if menu bar is not visible, right-click near top of screen and tick 'menu bar.' Then, click help>moretroubleshootinginformation, scroll down to 'profiles', click 'about:profiles', and you should see yours appear. Just select it and start using it.
