Updating On Windows 10
I am posting this to pass on knowledge that I wish I discovered earlier, probably because of my failure to pay attention when I acquired this PC, a Windows 10 64-bit. Periodically I tried and failed to update both Firefox and Thunderbird through its About drop down menu option. I would shut down, restart, hoping over time it would update by itself. This time around when that didn't work, I realized that for Thunderbird an updated version was available through the Microsoft Store, I chose that. All one has to do is click on Free Get. Then, the program applies the update. That routine works with Firefox too on Windows 10. So, when these updates become available, find them on the Microsoft Store, chose them and the respective programs with update.

Firefox and Thunderbird does not do internal updates if you installed them from Microsoft store.

Note: This article only applies if you installed Firefox by downloading it from Mozilla. If you installed Firefox from the Microsoft Store, then you will receive Firefox updates through the Microsoft Store.

James, Initially I downloaded these programs through Mozilla. All I know is that this method worked when either nothing else did work or worked unreliably. Besides, after so many posts about the same thing here, I found the amount of assistance limited.
