Hi,

I have changed from Norton to McAfee for virus checker on tower PC. =McAfee does not recognise Thunderbird as a safe product, so it will not allow access to it for downloading and sending emails unless I switch off VPN. Why should this be? Why does McAfee see the Thunderbird program as a threat?

If anybody else encountered the same problem what can Thunderbird program writers/ managers do to change the situation? I am very happy with Thunderbird and don't want to change from it.

If necessary will ditch McAfee but having paid for a year protection oath to do it.

Regards,

Jim

I doubt the developers will change thunderbird for you. you might see if mcafee has a setting to bypass email checking. Or ask mcafee how to bypass the check.

Have spoken to McAfee. All they have done is switch off the VPN. Would have thought the publisher of Thunderbird were big enought to engae with McAfee and try and understand how McAfee can identify the network in the same way that Norton and other viruse checkers can.

Thanks for your comments. Cheers, Jim

We regularly advise users that antivirus software and VPNs are usually/often the cause of email problems. I'm pleased your problem is resolved.
