Is it possible to change the settings somewhere so when a new tab opens, it opens at the far right of the tabs rather than right next to the tab I am working from.?

Type about:config in the URL bar and hit Enter. If you see the warning, you can confirm that you want to access that page.

Filter = browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent

Double-click that preference to change the value to false
