Upgrade has removed the settings for opening download files, in particular everything defaults to textedit. How are the settings changed?

On upgrading to FF 4, all of the settings for downloading files have changed. E.g., pl files now open only by Textedit instead of as PDF. I have altered the settings in Preferences but no effect. How can I control the programs used to open files and how change the defaults.

Go to the orange Firefox tab in the upper left corner of the browser and click to expand. Then choose Options and then choose Options again. The downloads settings are in the General tab.

Thanks -- there is no such tab on my browser. Where did that go? Can I get it back?
