The firefox address bar no longer allows me to type in words or phrases. Although I fixed it in the about:config area, it resets itself and I have had to fix it several times today. What do I do??

I have had this issue before, but usually once I figure out how to resolve it, the issue is done with. The address bar in firefox is not letting me type in a word or phrase to search and says that there is an error. I googled how to fix the problem and went into about:config and reset the keyword:URL. This fixes it for a period of time, but now instead of working permanently, it resets once again and I have manually fix it all over again. Whats the problem?
