Hi,

I'm sorry you're having this problem with Sync. I'm not sure if you are having a problem getting synced data on your tablet or your desktop from your post, could you give me more details?

Also, if you have any other version of Firefox for Android on your tablet that is setup for syncing to your desktop, that can cause problems with Aurora syncing.

Thanks for using Firefox for Android, Michelle

Good morning,

Unfortunately the only version of firefox compatible with my android tablet is Aurora, so that rules out interference from other firefox installs.

My problem is with syncing on my tablet - it has synced once, but I can see no way to manually sync it so that it is "up to date" with the tabs that are current on my desktop.

Hi,

Thanks for these additional details. You can go to the Tools menu in your desktop Firefox and select Sync Now to manually push the tabs to your tablet.

Best Regards, Michelle

Hi, thanks - have done this already but my tab has not resynced those tabs.

Hi, Ok, it should only take two minutes or so to sync them if your desktop Firefox is open and if you have tabs selected in the sync options.

If this doesn't work, there could be a bug, here is information about how to file a bug: https://philikon.wordpress.com/2011/06/13/how-to-file-a-good-sync-bug/

Thanks in advance, Michelle

tithin: to clarify, have you tried:

On desktop: Tools > Sync Now

followed by

On Android: open Settings, choose Accounts & Sync, choose your Firefox Sync account, then Menu > Sync Now

?

You need to ensure that both devices have synced, source first, before you'll see data having migrated from one device to the other.

Your tablet will sync as often as Android thinks it should, and no more frequently than every five minutes. There is no "push" of data from desktop to mobile; you have to wait for both ends to sync.

Also, how do you mean "a number of years ago"?

Hi, Can confirm i have taken that action on my desktop but my android appears to lack that sync now option you're referring to. Not sure how to screenshot on this device(only got it yesterday) but on entering accounts and sync I've got two entries, one is for google mail, and t he other is for firefox sync. On entering firefox sync there's a further two entris

with sync aurora as a tickbox. This is enabled. As for a number of years ago , I am probably off base, but the last time I recalled looking at those particular tabs was at least six months ago.

You'll need to hit the system-wide Android menu button. On most devices it looks like multiple horizontal lines or a series of dots; it might be a physical button, a touch-sensitive button outside of the screen area, or it might be a button drawn in a corner of the screen.

On the ASUS tablets it's in the top right:

Take a look in there and choose Sync Now.

Even better if you can get logs:

Thanks!

Most likely your desktop is failing to upload tabs. You can get a log:

https://philikon.wordpress.com/2011/06/13/how-to-file-a-good-sync-bug/

Feel free to attach it to your bug report!

Well, when I got back my credentials had been lost from my desktop sync for some reason. Have re logged in, and have left it at the

"Your data is now being encrypted and uploaded in the background. You can close this tab and continue using Firefox. "

tab for about 30 minutes, with no movement at all. The bar immediately shot to the end, and has sat there ever since.

and then crashed my Pc after 60 minutes. On the plus side despite the fact that I have to reaunthenticate every time I try to sync (on the desktop at least), it does now appear to be syncing between the two. On the other hand there now appears to be an error with sync - as for some reason it appears to have permanently cloned one of my windows, and the old synced tab I was referring to is still listed as a synced tab.

Hi tithin, nalexander, Android Sync developer here. Sorry that Android Sync isn't syncing your tabs. You said:

Do you have multiple Firefoxes installed on your Android device? Unfortunately, we don't support multiple installs yet -- we're working on it (you can follow at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=761206 ) but it's not ready yet.

If you do have multiple Firefoxes installed, you could see all kinds of problems :( If not, get back to me and we'll keep investigating.

Thanks for your report!

Hi,

Thanks for helping.

No - only one software installed - aurora itself. My platform isn't compatible with firefox release or beta, only aurora.

Hi tithin,

Sorry, I misread one of your messages. I think the next step would be for you to gather logs from your desktop, like rnewman suggested above, and send them along.

more options

A few things to check.

  • Do you have "Clear saved passwords on quit" checked on desktop? That will cause your Sync credentials to disappear every time you quit Firefox.
  • Can you elaborate on what you mean by "permanently cloned one of my windows"?
  • Do you see anything in the Error Console when you sync?
more options

@ nalexander - it might be a day or two before I can grab any logs - work day's left me quite exhausted so will action on weekend.

@ rnewman

- This is not ticked - I am starting to think the problem I have with it losing the password may be due to it not being saved due to an earlier crash, so please discard this for the moment until I am able to replicate it.

- I mean precisely that - I usually run two windows on my desktop. One for flash videos / streaming, and one for browsing. My flash window has two entries on my tablet, both with the exact same tabs on it. It also has the window I referred to still listed as synced in my tab list. Is there anyway to purge my synced tabs right now, and attempt a resync later?

- please hold for this one - will action on weekend when not quite so stressed / tired.

OK, so your device managed to sync your tabs, then quit before it finished and somehow lost its credentials. When you re-paired it, the tabs it synced before appeared to be from a different client, as if you had two computers with the same windows open.

Probably the best course of action is for you to go to:

https://account.services.mozilla.com/

Log in, and choose "Clear your Sync data" from the left bar.

Now sync your desktop.
