Version 20 broke the resume download when connection lost!
Before i updated to firefox 20, when my connection was lost, i had the possibility to resume the download. Now as soon as the connection is lost, the download fails automatically, and i have to restart it. That is so inconvenient in new zealand where i pay per GB and the connection isn't stable at all. Is there a parameter somewhere where i can have the same behavior in Firefox 19 and older? Thank you for your support.

Try these steps:
- Move the old .part partial download and the final file without the .part that has size 0 to another location.
- Start a new download and pause it, don't close Firefox.
- Copy the two files (.part and 0 byte final) that you moved above back to the download location to replace the new files that were created.
- Resume the download in Firefox.
If that doesn't work then the server may not support resuming.
It is better to use an external Download Manager (DM) if you are on dialup or have an unreliable connection.
An external Download Manager offers better support for resuming interrupted downloads than the built-in Firefox DM.
Use an external Download Manager if you need download features not offered by the Firefox Download Manager.
You can use the FlashGot extension to integrate an external Download Manager in Firefox.
The problem is that the new download manager there is only one button at the end and it is CANCEL so a double-click cancels it and starts it from scratch, whereas on the old one there was a PAUSE button and a CANCEL button and double-clicking on the pause button would pause and resume the file.
On the new one you have to right click and select pause from the menu, then right click again and select resume. Between this and the download history bollocks... I'm looking at alternate browsers.

Hi DungeonRaider, I assume you know how to switch from the new Download Panel back to the old Download Manager, but in case you haven't seen it, check out this thread: Got new version, want to go back to previous download box.
Hi jscher2000, thank you for pointing out the thread, am back to the old UI for now
Thanks... but once I realised that they'd taken the pause button away and how to pause/resume it wasn't so much of a problem even if it's making it a longer process to pause/resume.
My problem with Firefox lately is how every update seems to be a step backwards.. making things more intrusive, harder to change preferences, saving history even when you don't want it too and so on - basically taking user choice out of the hands of the user, doing things behind their back etc... Mozilla seem to be becoming more like Microsoft every day.
Hi DungeonRaider, it's easier to discuss specific feature issues than general characterizations. If there are other changes you don't like, perhaps there are solutions?
Pause and Resume is still available in the right-click context menu of the item in the drop down list on the Download Manager toolbar button.
