Running custom sync server, can't get past "Please enter a valid server URL" in Firefox Sync setup
I'm trying to run my own personal sync server and Firefox doesn't seem to think that the URL is valid.
I followed the exact directions here: http://docs.services.mozilla.com/howtos/run-sync.html
Got no errors in building, edited my sync.conf file, started the server. I tried the troubleshooting steps at: http://docs.services.mozilla.com/howtos/run-sync.html#firefox-says-the-server-url-is-invalid
Accessing http://[ipaddr]:5000 works, but gives a 404 (which I understand is expected?), __heartbeat__ and the account pages work.
I've searched for this error a lot and none of the suggested I've found have worked.

Not something I understand, but I did find that error mentioned here
- Problem connecting FF mobile to custom sync server

You may get someone on this forum answering but you probably stand a better chance if you use one of the mozillzine fora for this sort of question.
Hmm, no, that particular thread is not really relevant, but thanks for looking.
Oooooh, now I feel dumb. I missed the bit about the server URL including the port number.
This is kind of easy to miss in the documentation, I think it should be included in the "server URL is invalid" troubleshooting section (http://docs.services.mozilla.com/howtos/run-sync.html#firefox-says-the-server-url-is-invalid)
So, now I just want to get it running over SSL...
Glad you solved the problem, thanks for posting back.
I may have spoken too soon. I'm able to connect and create an account, but when the "Your First Sync" tab opens up, the progress bar just sits there and never moves. The server is running on my local network, so it certainly shouldn't be taking long.
