Error message below.

Connection to registration was unsuccessful. Quicken registration requires cookies and an internet connection. If there is an error registering Quicken, follow the steps below to correct the issue.

Connectivity

You are not connected to your the internet. Try browsing to a web site such as www.google.com using a browser such as Internet Explorer. Quicken may not be part of the allowed software that your Firewall program allows to connect to the internet. Please consult your firewall software instructions on how to add Quicken to the allowed programs. Some virus scanners prevent the connection. We have seen rebooting your computer will allow Quicken to connect. Make sure Internet Explorer browser supports 128 bit SSL encryption. You can confirm this by opening Internet Explorer and clicking Help and about Internet Explorer from the menu bar.

I also tried to go through Explorer, but Explorer says "isearch.avg.com" is not set up to establish a connection on port "World Wide Web service (HTTP)" with this computer so I could not follow the instructions below.

Check Your Internet Explorer Privacy Settings

If you use Internet Explorer 6.0, the following procedure shows you how to change your privacy settings to allow cookies. You may still be able to use these steps as a general guide for other browsers, but you should consult the manufacturer's instructions for your browser if you need additional assistance.

Launch Internet Explorer. Choose Tools menu > Internet Options. Click the Privacy tab. Select the appropriate option: If your Privacy settings are Custom, click the Advanced button, select the Override automatic cookie handling check box , select Accept for First-party Cookies, and click OK. If your Privacy settings are not Custom, adjust your settings to Medium High or lower on the slider. Click OK. Register Quicken. Check for Viruses or Spyware on Your Computer

Quicken requires a secure Internet connection. Many viruses, spyware and adware will interfere with Quicken's ability to establish a secure connection. Make sure your virus protection is up to date and run a full system scan.

There are many third party systems that will scan and remove spyware and adware from your computer. Intuit recommends periodically checking your system for spyware or adware and removing programs you do not want on your computer.

Hello,

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
  • Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

FirefoxSafeMode

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode" Safe Mode Fx 15 - Win

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.

Thank you.

jruth1212,

As suggested in the last paragraph of your post, I would recommend scanning for viruses since you are unable to access the Internet and Internet Explorer cannot even open AVG's search.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Let us know whether it helps or not.

You can access IE's "Internet Options" dialog from the Windows Control panel if IE doesn't start up normally.
