I had to reinstall ubuntu 13.10 on my desktop and am trying to sync it back with my phone, but when i enter the 4x3 code it's asking me to create or sign in and enter my recovery key, except I can't get my recovery key from my phone.

hello, please try to pair the two devices like this:

  1. on your android phone go into the system's settings app and into accounts & synchronisation (might be worded slightly different on different android devices), go to firefox sync & tap on pair a device.
  2. on your desktop go to firefox > options > sync > set up firefox sync > i have an account which will show you a 3x4 character code that you'll have to enter into your android device in order to complete the process.

I specifically said in the desciption that I enter the key, and then it still asks me to enter my log in information. I see my phone go to "waiting" status, but nothing happens. My desktop is still asking me to log in with password/username/recovery key AFTER i enter the 3x4 code given to me by my phone.

sorry it wasn't totally clear in the original description where you where entering what, your desktop is showing you the 3x4 character code that you are entering into your mobile & confirming - what happens on your desktop afterwards? is it jumping from the 3x4 code page to a screen where it asks for the recovery key afterwards? (this would rather be unusual, are there any error messages in between - could you provide a screenshot)

If your phone is still connected to the sync server then you need to get the 12-character code on the desktop computer and enter that code on the mobile device to pair the desktop computer.

  • Android OS > Settings > Accounts > Firefox Sync > Pair a new Device

Both devices need to be online at the same time if you want to pair a device with the (3x4) 12-character code.
Sync needs to be set up and working on at least one computer, so you can enter the 12-character code, provided by the device (computer) that you want to pair, in three fields to pair a device on the computer/device that has a working Sync setup.

That's exactly what is happening. I get my key from my phone, see where I enter it on my desktop, I enter it the key on my desktop, my phone switches to "waiting for other device... and then my desktop goes to the screen attached in the screenshot.

Which device is currently setup and connected to the sync server?

Is that the Ubuntu desktop computer or the Android device?

my android phone is currently set up and synced. Yes, that is an Ubuntu Desktop. My phone is synced with my computer at work, and I need to sync my home computer to the three of them.

If the android is synced then you need to get the 12-character code to pair the device from the Ubuntu desktop computer and enter that code on the Android device and not the other way around.

Cor-el please read what I've posted.

what is probably irritating us is that you wrote My desktop is still asking me to log in with password/username/recovery key AFTER i enter the 3x4 code given to me by my phone, because it's the other way round - the key should be displayed on your ubuntu desktop (when you click on "i have an account") & entered into your mobile...

here is a step by step on my destop:

  1. goto about:home
  2. click Sync
  3. click pair a device
  4. it asks for a code
  5. i go to my phone and get the code
  6. I enter the code into my desktop
  7. desktop now goes to create/have account

You need to use these steps on the desktop computer:

  1. Firefox (or File) > Set Up Sync
  2. Click "I have an account"

That brings you to the Pair a Device window that show a 3x4 character code:

  • To activate, select "Pair a Device" on your other device. Show me how.
Then, enter this code: xxxx xxxx xxxx

Then go to the Android device:

  1. Android OS > Settings > Accounts > Firefox Sync > Pair a new Device
  2. enter the 3x4 character code that you got on the Ubuntu computer

I have exactly the same issue!

I followed the steps in the last post (except that I want to synch a new Android tablet to my existing desktop settings).

I get the codes from the Android device. I go to my desktop, select pair device, and enter the codes. (Android device says it is waiting for desktop) Desktop takes me to screen to create an account or log in...

I try to log in and it asks for the recovery key.....

And the codes on the Android device change!

HELP please!
