When I click on the Firefox icon my home page is shown but in the background a Sky Betting advert opens at the same time. Sometimes it just overlays my home page. I do not know how this one advert was able to do this, how did it manage to get through my security? How can I get rid of this advert for good?

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer. Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.
