Hash while downloading

Is there any method (hidden flags, extensions...) to calculate hash while downloading so that I can see the hash value right at the moment when downloading finishes?

For large files, hashing takes a lot of time, so if it is done in memory while downloading, it will save my time and also, it will be more efficient because the file needs not be read from the hard disk again.
