Firefox keeps crashing on Ubuntu 14.04.3, I mean like every 4 - 5 mins, even without opening any tab. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling, tried safe-mode, disabling flash... nothing still crashing. Running Firefox in debug mode with Firefox -g doesn't display any error information at the time of the crash. An additional thing I noticed is that Youtube videos only propose 360p quality.

Chosen solution

hmm, it's there in the signature again when you click on that last crash report. any difference when you remove the extension alltogether?

hi, these crashes seem to be caused by involvement of the ublock extension. please try to keep it disabled for the moment...

Tried disabling it. Didn't fix it. Also tried safe-mode and same problem. I can send a report from safe-mode if that would be helpful.

yes please, every additional piece of information could help.

I started firefox in safe-mode using firefox -safe-mode and made sure all addons are disabled. Still same problem.

Still a problem with uBlock as you can see in the crash report. Firefox 40.0.3 Crash Report [@ libxul.so@0x21ea133 | uBlock0@raymondhill.net.xpi@0x55883 ]

You will have to uninstall the extension if disabling doesn't work although you could try to delete the compatibility.ini file to reinitialize the profile.

Yes that's what I just did. Removed Ublock completely and it's seems to be ok, no crash for the last 5 mins. But why does it crash Firefox even while disabled? Isn't there a security issue with this? Specially that Ublock is widely used.

Try to bring up your issue on the µBlock support site.

Thanks everyone for the great work. My problem is solved now.

I'll make sure to report it to UBlock team now.

Hi there again, sorry to unbury this "Apparently solved issue". After some chat with the UBlock developer, the problem seems to be in Firefox, because normally the extension alone wouldn't cause the browser to totally crash.

After some research and reading again the crash report it seems that the libxul.so library is known to have that missing symbol problem reported in the crash report, and so even in safemode. Idk how this works exactly but in case of any problem with UBlock the libxul library should raise an exception and not crash the whole browser.

I'm unfortunately not in power to find the piece of code responsible for this even though the crash report gives the memory address of the bug. So maybe someone more experienced could give it a look again and at least guide me on how i could identify the problem more precisely.

Thanks.
