Cannot open firefox. Get message that just says crash report. Cannot find a phone number to talk to anyone about it.

Chosen solution

Mozilla doesn't have any official phone support, sorry.

Could you try starting Firefox in its Safe Mode to see whether it will run? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions, hardware acceeleration, and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any less crashy?

If you are getting the Mozilla Crash Reporter form, your Firefox may have logged some data that would help track down the cause of the problem. You can submit that data to Mozilla and share it with forum volunteers to see whether it points to the solution. Please check the support article "Firefox crashes - asking for support" for steps to get those crash report IDs from the about:crashes page, and then post some of the recent ones here.

Finally, I'll just note something that is coming up a lot lately: if you use Norton security software, there seems to be a severe startup crash problem if you also have a program called Freecorder from Applian Technologies. If you find Freecorder on your Start menu > All Programs or in your Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program, and it's not crucial to keep it, please try removing it.

I don't know how I got freecorder but as soon as I removed it, Firefox was back immediately. THANK YOU IMMENSELY.
