Today Thunderbird updated and initially it opened but would not operate. I could receive notification of new emails but could not open the in box or perform any tasks. I followed the posted fix and restarted my computer several times but the result was the same opening page but remained in a frozen state. I restarted again after approx. 1 hour and now Thunderbird does not load but according to my program files it shows version 38.5 downloaded 16/1/16. Would appreciate any advice

Chosen solution

- start Thunderbird in safe mode https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode - go to tools | addons - remove the lightning addon - restart thunderbird - if you need the lightning addon, add it back at tools | addons

Does that help?

Thank you Wayne the solution above worked first time and I have not encountered any problems since. Great to have someone such as yourself providing quality information especially since it is on a volunteer basis. Thank you most sincerely.

Thank you Wayne. Your solution worked great. I found an profile and was able to use Thunderbird again, however my calendar was not correct and my old emails were gone. I kept a copy of the "Bad" profile hoping for a fix. Now I'm up and running with no loss of data.
