Why can I suddenly not open pdf attachments ?

When I click the attachment it asks whether to open or save. Opens with TWINUI but the attachment appears blank. I'm unable to close it with the x but it goes away when I "minus" it. Any ideas? It's a new computer and I didn't have this problem until yesterday.

if the helper application opens, Thunderbird has done it's job. But as it is a PDF, there is a very good chance your anti virus is causing you grief. PDF files like Office documents are a known attack vector, so anti virus programs are careful to scan them. However if it is still scanning it when the helper opens the file you may very well see what your talking about
