Why didn't Thunderbird download my contacts along with my outlook.com email files?

So far I'm pretty happy with Thunderbird. Only problem is--it's going to be PAINFUL if I have to manually recreate my contacts list. I thought it should have synced contacts when Thunderbird successfully downloaded from two different email clients: Outlook.com and my local ISP account. Is importing contacts a separate step? What am I missing?

Chosen solution

Email clients don't sync address books. Export your address book to a CSV file and import that file into Thunderbird's address book.
