About once a week my saved sign-ins & password are no longer saved, why is that and can it be fixed?

Dear Sirs, About once a week my saved sign-ins & passwords are no longer saved. I checked using -- Options -- Security -- Saved Logins -- and the box is empty. I checked the night before and it was filled with all my saved sign-in & passwords. But when I turned on my computer and opened FireFox and went to sign-in to FaceBook and my sign-in & password wasn't available. So I checked out my Saved Logins, the box is empty. Why is FireFox doing that? I have 49.0.1 and I see the message that FireFox is up tp date. I really don't want to keep putting in my sign-in & password every week. It's really inconvenient.

My computer is Windows 10 with a brand new hard-drive, 64 bit.

If there's a fix for this, I would greatly appreciate any fixes for this problem. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

In the event that the passwords information is lost, you should record all information in a separate text file somewhere else on your hard drive, or written down. You can easily copy and paste if you need to do so. If you are concerned about someone else looking at that file, you can compress it using a password.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Is the problem still there?

Thank you for the information. I'll try it the next time it happens. I did run a malware scan and found out that I had 4 issues (which are gone now). Maybe that was the problem with FireFox not remembering my user names and passwords.

I have a Rolodex file that I keep my user names and passwords on. But it's a pain in the butt to always refer to it. I did save a word document file to my desktop with all my most used websites listed with my user names and passwords.

I thought when you are in safe mode you can't access the internet. And if I were to open my computer in safe mode to see if my problem is still a problem, then if I can't access the internet then I don't see how that will fix the problem.

Thanks again for all your help. Jan

In most computers, there are several types of Safe Mode. The primary ones used most are;

  • Safe Mode: Only programs that came with the computer are started. No other programs will be started unless the user starts them.
  • Safe Mode with Networking: Same as above but the network drivers (internet) will also be running.

This is a way to test if one of the other programs on the computer is causing the issue.

These can't get your data back, but will help in the future.

These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox

FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) {web link} FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your saved files individually into installable .xpi files. It will also make backups of files that you choose.

I did a "Refresh FireFox" and it didn't work. When I "refreshed" firefox it saved the old firefix document to my desktop.

If I were to do what you suggested -starting up in safe mode - I have no idea what to do or how to do it.

I'm thinking about uninstalling FireFox. I was a good program until it stopped remembering my user names and passwords.

That is your choice.

To start  Firefox in Safe Mode  is really not all that complicated:   just click on the link that   FredMcD   gave you in his first reply and follow the instructions.
It may very well solve your problem, so:   worth a try   ......
