I have an Microsoft Outlook has asked me to change the name of the Junk folder saying it is not compatible.

"One or more folders in your mailbox have name conflicts with others or system reserved names.

Folders with these names can't be downloaded by your IMAP e-mail program.

Junk

Please connect to your mailbox using your Web browser and rename those folders. Once renamed, those folders will be displayed in your IMAP e-mail application correctly."

When I try to change the name I receive an error message saying "You can not change the name on system folders.

How and where did you try to change the name? They seem to be steering you at the folders on the server, edited via your browser.

Alternatively, you ought to be able to do it in Thunderbird. On the face of it, you just right-click the folder, select Properties and change its name there.

More pragmatically, perhaps you should look through the folders settings in Thunderbird under Tools|Account Settings and change Thunderbird to use those offered by outlook.
