Can't play 1440p or 4K video on YouTube

For some reason, Firefox won't allow me to select any resolution over 1080p even for videos that are explicitly denoted as 4K. Chrome will allow me to play these videos at 1440p or 4K, but Firefox maxes out at 1080p. I have a 30" 1600p monitor and I'd like to use the full capabilities of my monitor without having to resort to Chrome.

So here's an interesting twist. I tried Firefox in a Windows 8.1 Pro x64 virtual machine, and it was able to play 1440p video with no issues. Is this a Windows 7 issue?
