Missing content when print

Firefox verison 56.0 (64 bit). I was trying to print out my flight info and noticed that not all of the information were printed. I play with the scaling by reducing the size down to 30%, more info was printed but still not everything. I tried to print with Chrome and it printed fine. Maybe a bug in Firefox? I have the html file saved, but not sure how to uploaded here. Thanks.

This all I got. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Problems_printing_web_pages

Look on the Website and see if there is a button or link to a Printable Version or something like that. Can change to Reader View and see if that does anything good.

And if HTML file wanted to send has personal info on it then glad you did not.

Also know that Windows 10 can and will change your hardware Drivers. If have drivers for that and are not supplied by Microsoft make sure Microsoft has not changed anything. Can look in the Device Manager for that info Printer then Driver Properties.

You can check make and model of Printer on the Manufacturers Website to see if have Drivers. Never use the Cd that came with it as they are out of date by the time you buy the printer.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Thanks for the suggestions, but did not resolve the problem. I've tried using different printers with the same result. Using Chrome to print has no problem. Again, the problem is not that it didn't print. It is that some text did not get printed. The purpose of a html file is hoping that a developer may look at it and see why some text are not being printed. Of course if I uploaded something to the public, I'll make sure all personal info are removed.

Firefox has some bugs when printing. Some have workarounds, but the problem is when it's not a publicly accessible page, it's hard to experiment and see what the issue is. Before having you put the HTML somewhere like Pastebin, do any of these sound familiar:

  • Block that cannot be paginated problem, variant 1: printing is normal on the first page but the stuff you would expect on the second page isn't there.
  • Block that cannot be paginated problem, variant 2: a large page of page 1 is blank, and that content moves to page 2, but then the continuation you expect on page 3 is missing.
  • Blank table content on page 2 or later: this is a new issue in Firefox 56, where tables may show only the first line of content on later pages (leaving a blank gap before the next content).
  • First few pages blank: a rare issue where several initial pages of a long document are completely blank up to around the middle of one page, and then it's normal from there on.

Thanks for the info. Sorry, I can't tell you which scenario my problem will fit into. It does related to blocks and not tables. There are blocks within blocks and some content within a block did not get printed. That is why I would like to upload the page so that they can study it.

If you need a public site, you can try this one. https://secure3.hilton.com/en_US/dt/reservation/book.htm?execution=e1s2

It may or may not show up correctly on your end since it is a search result. The page shows 6 items. When print, it only printed 3.

I understand that formatting of the print out may be incorrect due to style, etc... However, missing info is just not acceptable to me. Hopefully FF can fix the printing issue.

Thanks for the link. It starts me on a search page. I entered a city, got a list of hotels, then clicked the green Book a Room button. That loaded "Step 2 of 5" which lists different room types at the hotel. When I look at Print Preview, I see this pattern "Block that cannot be paginated problem, variant 2."

In this case, unfortunately, there is not a non-destructive solution to "fix" the page. The reason is that the site uses a fieldset tag to surround the entire set of listings (screenshot attached). Firefox was designed with small fieldsets in mind and simply did not include code to paginate them. This has been known for many years but has gotten low priority because not that many sites do this.

Using the Inspector tool (shown in the attached), you can "fix" the problem by double-clicking the word fieldset and changing it to div. That makes it printable. However, this may make some aspects of the form inoperable or unreliable, so after printing, you would want to reload the page. It's definitely easier to use another browser to deal with this bug.

Thanks for checking it out. Unfortunately my problem really isn't with that particular site. I just try to find a public site where you can see a print with missing content problem. Sorry for misleading.

My current problem is with British Airway with my flight info. This page I saved. I searched this page and it does not contain any fieldset tag. Perhaps it belongs to the first scenerio.

I've also encountered another one where I make a booking of an event. When printing the confirmation page, it printed everything except the confirmation number and the date and time of my booking. Really weird.

It may not be as uncommon as you may think. Then again....I really have no real data.

Thanks. I'm definitely not saying that printing problems are uncommon, just ones caused by the fieldset tag. I experience the problem all the time myself because printing is a core feature for me.

I won't bore you with the dozens of problem scenarios. I'm sure bugs have been filed and they are languishing because printing is not a high priority for Mozilla employees and that means an outside developer needs to step up and offer fixes.

Bottom line, there's no general recipe for fixing printing problems due to their diverse causes. If there's a site you use frequently, we often can suggest a workaround, but for the one-offs, you probably can't justify the effort. Sorry I don't have better news.
