Cox is email provider. Account 1 is ajcoco@cox.net Account 2 is iparetired@cox.net

T-Bird has been accessing both accounts automatically when I launch the program. Now the ajcoco account accepts the user ID and password, but the other account rejects them, displaying error messages. "Sending of password did not succeed. Mail server pop.cox.net responded: invalid login or password". Check box OK => "Login to server pop.cox.net failed." Check box "Enter new password" Sends me to error message in above line.

My webmail gives similar results. I can access ajcoco, but not iparetired. Need directions on how to set iparetired settings. AJC

Your last paragraph says it all. You don't know the credentials for this account, so you need to sort this out first. The cox website should have support for changing or resetting an account's password. Failing that, speak to their helpdesk.
