I have chosen google.com as my home page, but when I open a new tab Firefox defaults to a blank page with a Firefox symbol in the upper left corner.

I am trying to make google my default home page when I open new tabs. it is set as my home page in options, and when I click the "home" button, firefox goes to the google page. However, when I open a new tab, Firefox opens up a new firefox page (instead of google). how do I make google open up when I start a new tab? thanks,

The NewTab page isn't the same as your HomePage / Mozilla Firefox Start Page (as it is labeled). You'll need an extension to get that accomplished.

Try this one: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/new-tab-override/
