Firefox hangs as soon as the address bar is clicked. It never crashes, and isn't using much CPU, but never becomes fully responsive again either. It occasionally flickers back to life, but instantly hangs again.

Have tried:

  • fresh install (uninstall then reinstall)
  • new, untouched profile
  • "Refresh Firefox" in about:support

Running Firefox 60.0.1 x64 on Windows 7. It was working perfectly yesterday on the same version.

No malware found.

I also ran the WIndows System File Checker in case some system library got corrupted or something, but it didn't find any problems.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Safe mode has the same problem.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that in the first post (although I think the other things I tried basically do the same thing).

Start your Computer in safe mode with network support. Then start Firefox. Try Secure websites. Is the problem still there?
