In the reading pane I see a black outlined star next to the senders name and email address. And next to my name and email address I see a solid blue star. What do these mean and can I remove them from display?

Chosen solution

A star filled with color indicates the address is in one of your address book. An empty star indicates it is not. Clicking an empty star adds it to your Personal address book. Clicking a filled star opens the edit dialog for that contact. No you cannot remove them.
