I am closing down my Gmail account soon. I would like to copy all my Gmail IMAP messages to Local Folders and retain the Gmail labels folders and all their messages. How can I achieve this?

Chosen solution

try using the gmail take out option that creates a zip file with multiple MBOX files. It will take some days usually for Google to notify you they have created the archive. But it is far easier to import the individual mbox files in the archive with the import export tools (and lots more reliable) and you get the option in the Google take out to select the folders/labels you wish to include.
