The automatic install updates did not works until click into Options menu (about:preferences)

We are planning to deploy the Firefox enterprise to our environment (Windows). We found that the auto updates only works when we go to Options (about:preferences). What we want to achieve is we want the check for update happen in background. And if possible it should install silently background. Then prompt for new update notification for user to relaunch the browser in order to get latest version.

A few questions we would like to ask and understand. - How did the automatic update works? - How frequent does the check for updates happen? - Is there any group policy that we could configure for the interval check or other related to auto update? - How could we achieve this goal? with mozilla config file or group policy?

Thank you.

Automatic updates will periodically check if there is an update for Firefox. If there is, it's downloaded and the user is prompted to restart Firefox to apply the update.

How often Firefox checks for updates is set by the app.update.interval preference. It's the time in seconds. The standard Firefox defaults to 43200, which is 12 hours. If you want to modify this value on multiple devices, see Customize Firefox using AutoConfig.

I'll have to get back to you on how to force automatic updates. This used to be done using the app.update.auto preference, but that appears to have been removed in a recent update to Firefox.

Hope this helps.
