I recently had to open Firefox in SafeMode and I've been able to customize my desktop page back to how I had it EXCEPT that I now have a "new tab" + icon at the far right whereas it used to be directly to the right of the last tab I had opened. This wouldn't be a problem except that I notice that when I open a new tab from an existing active one Firefox places the new tab next to the active tab instead of opening the new tab at the far right which is where it used to place it and I much prefer it this way. Can I do something to change it back? Thanks!

Thank you! The "browser.tabs.insertAfterCurrent" preference wasn't bolded and was set to false. However the "browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent" WAS set to true and I double clicked to change it to false. When I now click a link in an active tab it DOES open a new tab to the far right of my tabs.

BTW, the icon "+" to open a new tab remains at the far right of the toolbar and is not right next to my furthest right tab as it used to be. This I can live with. :-)

Many thanks for your help jscher2000!!

I do not think this is possible in one step, but you can move the new tab left with Ctrl+Shift+Page Up and to the right with Ctrl+Shift+Page Down.

Thanks Dinushi for the quick reply. Moving the tab is really not what I'm looking for. I want Firefox to automatically put new tabs at the far right - which is what it had been doing all along until I had to clear everything when re-starting Firefox in SafeMode.

Hi Didee1000, could you check these settings:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste insert and pause while the list is filtered

(3) If the browser.tabs.insertAfterCurrent preference is bolded and "modified" to true, double-click it to restore the default value of false

(4) Double-click the browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent preference to switch the value from true to false

The new tab button is a normal toolbar button and you can drag it to a different position on the Tab bar or to other toolbars. On the Tab bar it would normally appear next to the last tab. It is possible that the plus icon isn't in the correct container. If you drag the plus button to the left of the "List all tabs" button in customize mode then the button will snap to the correct position when you close customize mode. If that doesn't happen then click Restore Defaults in the customize window.

Yikes... I tried to move it as suggested but now I've lost it! Clicking Restore Defaults did not bring it back. Help please!

I found it! It was at the far left of the toolbar. (It did not snap to the correct position when I closed Customize.) I opened Customize again and was able to drag it back to the right hand side. I guess I'll just live with it where it is. :-)

Thanks for trying to help cor-el! Diane

You need to drag the new tab button to the left of the list all tabs button and not to the far right.

Thanks. I'll leave it where it is.

Thank you. This was the main question I had. Worked very well (FF 70.0.1).
