Hello all!

Both my Yahoo Mail accounts on Thunderbird stopped working 2 days ago, right after the Thunderbird update. I've tried everything I could think of, including a lot of options in the community, but nothing works. At first, I thought the update had invalidated the new app password now required by Yahoo for third-party apps. So, I created a new password and replaced it, but it didn't work. I have also deleted the account from my passwords on Thunderbird, closed it, and then restarted, hoping it would require the password for me to add the newly created app password, but it didn't do anything, didn't even prompt for a new password. I don't know what else to do. And BTW, both emails work on the webmail (just not on Thunderbird).

Any ideas of what could be happening?

Cheers, Amanda

Is this a Yahoo account through a provider like AT&T or Sky, or directly to Yahoo on imap.mail.yahoo.com or pop.mail.yahoo.com? If it's the latter, check that the authentication method on the incoming and outgoing servers is OAuth2, check that cookies are allowed in Options/Privacy & Security, remove the passwords from Saved Passwords, restart TB, enter the account password (not app password) in the OAuth window when prompted.

hi, please also check this post & my answer inside this post, here (please upvote it if its helpful).

Based on Yahoo-mail account type mentioned by user:sfhowes in earlier response-post, the link i posted in above line, should be helpful.

your problem description is indicating, that, there may be an AV/FW/SS software in your computer that is creating some conflict, with internet data communication, which is needed to happen in-between your TB & remote yahoo mail-servers.

TB = Thunderbird . AV = Anti-Virus . FW = Firewall . SS = Security-Suite software.

so 1st disable "mail-protection" in AV/FW/SS software or add your mail-server address in it's Allow-EXCEPTION list, see here. restart TB, and check your yahoo mail again . click on a different folder, other than Inbox, for example, click on Sent, then TB should ask for password & communicate with yahoo mail servers.

if that does not work, then see this answer & next answer under that, and change the existing yahoo account's email-address in TB like shown below: for-example: if your email adrs is user@example.com , then change it to user-my-backup-account@example.com , remove password , save changes . in this way all old emails+folders will remain intact. ( if you rename account's email address back to your actual email-adrs , then you can use it again. ) next thing you do is .. add a new mail account again in the TB , configure it for your actual yahoo mail , and follow instructions shown inside this answer, and follow also the answer below that too.
