FF89 drop down menu excessive padding

Before FF89 automatically updated today I could easily read and operate my browser with the default spacing in the drop down menus - it's been that way for many many years. With FF89 it seems that the items are virtually double spaced - why on earth, there was no problem before and I cannot understand why it has changed. I mean on all display devices space is a premium so why introduce something that causes the bookmark menu items to scroll off the page - so irritating & infuriating.

I have seen a couple of posts regarding this and the 'community' responded a fix to use 'css' in a file. I know they are well intended but is that what leading edge browser has come to - get the user to hack a file to fix it on the fly.

Implementation of a change which has such a drastic impact on the end user surely warrants an option in the settings / customize section to change the new default padding to something more 'compact' to offer the end user the choice.

Is there a real method to altering the spacing without the need to hack a file or is the alternative rolling back to the previous version or going to another browser.

The interface changes are an absolute disaster. Those of us who prefer compactness for our tabs and menus should still have that option. I have tried the unsupported "Compact mode workaround in Firefox" approach and it did not work on my Windows 10 system. Please fix what you broke, I hate all the additional scrolling I now have to do.

You can possibly use code in userChrome.css to override changes coming in Firefox 89+ with the new Proton design.

That fixed most of the problems with the menus. The "Show Your Bookmarks (Ctrl+Shirt+O)" icon on the toolbar still brings up the shortcuts in the spaced Proton Mode with outlined folder icons and the folder icons are still outlined instead of filled on the menu bar.

These were such unnecessary changes and significantly affect the productivity of those of us who have a lot of shortcuts.

I looked at Chrome (which I use for my work because it supports encrypted credentials and DoD CAC cards) and they still use normal spacing for menus and bookmarks, though they also use outlined folders.

I looked at Edge, which I don't use. They have gone to the wider spacing, but still maintain the yellow folders.

Why can't all the UI things be selectable so that users can have the look and feel they are most comfortable with?

I would MUCH rather tailor my browsers to look as similar as possible to facilitate the use of features on all of them without also having to adjust to the different UIs.
