accessing bom.gov.au returns "website does not currently support connections via HTTPS." the site then redirects to itself. I first thought that it was a site specific problem but when I tried with Internet explorer I had no problems. I also can access the site successfully with my mobile phone where I also use Firefox. Is there a setting I have overlooked?

It's a strange message; I'm not sure why it says that. Perhaps Firefox is sending the header requesting an upgrade from HTTP to HTTPS and it is responding to that. I think they are mostly saying they want to you to use the www in the address:
