I have downloaded and want to not lose, emails on my computer via Thunderbird. I want to keep those, while closing my paid webmail account online. Like a historical archive. I will be using other webmail accounts. and downloading through T-Bird.

I would suggest before you close your webmail account you export the mail from Thunderbird as mbox files using the import export tools addon.

Most people these days have IMAP accounts and they are not archival quality as theu are syncronised to the account you are closing, so doing the export will guarantee usable copies that can be imported to local folders in Thunderbird after the account is gone.
