I am trying to move my email client from WLM to Thunderbird. I exported the address book from WLM to a csv file. The Thunderbird Import process fails. I have done this before without problems. Do I need to erase the existing Thunderbird address book before importing?

As it is I get the following message: "An error occurred importing addresses from text file."

I've examined the content of the exported file and it is correct. What could be happening?

Just try this. It is a guess based on years old issues. Open the CSV file in windows notepad. Click save as and ensure the "Encoding" is set to UTF-8 and see if that works.

I solved the p0roblem by uninstalling/reinstalling Thunderbird. After reinstall, it worked as advertised.
