THUNDERBIRD INBOX DOES NOT DISPLAY SENDERS NAME FROM CONTACTS
I have been using Thundebird some years now and I have created my contact list . Until recently everything worder perfect and one day all of a sudden thunderbird decided to ingore my contact list and display all the senders either by they mail or by the name they have chosen. I have tried some actions in order to correct it and I end up having the same mail up to 10 times in my contacts and still on the inbox the sender was still displayed differently . It seems like thunderbird is ignoring my contact list and keeps adding the contacts over and over .Also for an unknown to me reason some contacts that are allready added connot be processed through the inbox and the only option I have is to add them in contacts .So I think the program lost connection to my contact list some how.

Kalimera Nikos :) Can you answer some question for me, so I can try to help? - Is it a local address book or a CardDav (remote) one? - Do I understand this correctly: You've added in your address book something like that - lalala@example.com and the name - My sister, but then TB shows their email or their name, but not "My sister label"? - What is your version?

Kalimera my friend Bogo! -It is a local address book ( from what I understand but I cannot be 1000% sure that I undrestand ) but in my effort to resolve the issue I downloaded an addon with a CradDav something ( not sure what I did or what it did but I deleted it ) - You understood perfectly .I add the contact, edit it and click on the option Prefer display name over message header. Then when I go to the mail at the column correspondents the specific contact appears either as a plain mail either as the name the correspondent chose (?). Also when I click on the from at the bar in the middle ( bellow the mail if you chose one that has the options from,to ,subject, tags ) where the mail of the sender is I have the option to add it to the address book even though the mail is allready added as a contact . So I presume that somehow TB cannot see my address book ! ? Thank you in advance!
Hey Nikos, Can you try the following: - Go to your contact - Click "Edit" - Then click the checkbox "Prefer display name over message header" and make sure that the Display name is setup
I believe this is the only way to set how the TB will display the recipient in the view.
I have allready did this unfortunatelly and didnt work. The problem is in my opinion that even for allready added contacts , when I am in the mail tab and not in the contacts tab, I have the option to add them as they do not appear allready added and I dont have the option to edit them.
Nikos, I tried the "Prefer display name over message header" on existing contact and it worked. Yes, you need to set it up for every single one of your contacts and ensure that the display name is set.
I had problems in using the names of the contact. For example if I want one contact to have First name: Lalala and last name lalala when I receive the e-mail it displays the original name.
i am not sure what else could be done here. bogo
