I was working on syncing my PC and my HP laptop. Everything was fine, but when I tried to connect to Mozilla again on my laptop, I got the above error message. I tried to connect with Internet Explorer and was taken to the Mozilla download page. I downloaded Mozilla again, and it still doesn't work. Internet Explorer should be independent, so something is really wrong

You posted here with Firefox 4.0b8, which has Sync built-in - is that the computer which has that problem?

Or, is that problem is happening with a computer running Firefox 3.6 and the Firefox Sync 1.6 or 1.6.1 extension?

My error message is in french with the following path on Linux : jar:file:///home/tonin/logiciels/firefox/chrome/fr.jar!/locale/branding/browserconfig.properties

Firefox is looking for something which is not there (anymore ?)

Things started going wrong while using Sync, maybe with another profile under firefox4beta...fuzzy...
