In Tiscali Mail I get the message "You have undefined new mails in your inbox" & cannot access my email in box. Was OK in previous version & is OK in IE. Is there a fix?

Using Firefox 4 I cannot see my email inbox. I see a message "You have undefined new mails in your inbox". OK in IE. "Compose" is OK but the address book does not display it's contents

I have tried diabling add-ons, selecting the specific service under control panel, add/remove programmes, set programme access & defaults, custom, (use drop down list) select browser and click OK, no progress I'm afraid. Very frustrating.

Just reverted back to Firefox 3.6 all is well with the world! Add-ons are back, it integrates with Norton 360 just wait for Mozilla to resolve the problem before you upgrade.

Version 3.6 can be downloaded http://www.filehippo.com/download_firefox/6906/

To make Tiscali work with Firefox 4.0, please follow these instructions:

  1. In the location bar at the top, type: about:config and hit Enter.
  2. In the filter at the top, copy/paste the following: general.useragent.override This will display a blank page.
  3. Right click anywhere in the blank area and choose "New" and then "String".
  4. In the dialog box which appears, copy/paste general.useragent.override again and click OK. The dialog box will remain on screen, but you'll see that name appear above where it previously said "Enter Preference Name".
  5. Next, copy/paste the following: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:2.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0
  6. Click OK and then go to File | Exit. Restart Firefox again and try and login to Tiscali.
  7. I've uploaded a screenshot for you to illustrate the steps above.

I read what you have said but consider this a "work around" not a "fix". I have reloaded 3.6 (which is fine) so I need to start by reloading 4.0 & then follow your "Work around"?

The problem lies with Tiscali in that they haven't kept abreast of new developments by updating their software to work with Firefox 4.0

If you're content to use 3.6, then that's fine too provided the version is at least 3.6.16. Earlier versions leave your system vulnerable to attack. You can update easily enough by going to Help | Check For Updates.

This is typical of software suppliers - which is the chicken & which is the egg? When I was working we always got caught between software versions of different programs being incompatible (Java was the worst culprit then). As I am using 3.6.16 I will wait a while before trying again to use v4 Thanks for your help Regards Alec

OK, Firefox 5.0 is slated for release on June 21, so maybe that one will be better.

Yeah. I don't like IE as it often seems to fail or log me out. So I went to Firefox. When Firefox v5 let me down with this problem I got fed up so now using Opera. Seems good but hasn't imported my bookmarks/favourites ...yet. I will try the above suggestions to get it sorted. Tiscali ....get your act together!!
