When I have a tab opened and I open a bookmark, Firefox opens a whole new window instead of just opening the bookmark in the tab. How do I fix this?

I have a new tab opened and the screen says "Welcome to tabbed browsing." I click to open a bookmark and instead of opening the bookmark in the new tab that I just opened firefox automatically opens a whole new window. This is new, worked fine last night, now it does this.

I am using Windows XP

click on the orange Firefox button in the top left or Tools in XP and then open Options then go to the Tabs panel. Then select the 'Open new windows in a tab instead', restart may be required.
