When opening a new tab, why does firefox suggest my recent history when I checked "never show history" on settings?

If you've visited sites in non Private Browsing mode then there may still be thumbnails of pages in the cache.
Only of pages that you visit in PB mode shouldn't be showing on the about:newtab page.

Clearing the cache should make the thumbnails disappear on a refresh.

Thank you cor-el. My PB was checked, but not on settings ("always use PB mode"). This solved my problem.
