My search bar is "stuck" on yahoo and will not let we switch between search engines. How do I fix this?

When I hit the drop down menu in the search bar and try and select another search engine it does not work. I used to get a pop-up asking if I wanted to use the other site but that has also stopped. I just want to be able to switch between search engines

Chosen solution

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Try to delete search.json file and a possible search.sqlite file in the Firefox Profile Folder to reset the search engines.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder
