I enter "nfl.com" but I'm taken to "http://www.adtech.com/Home/". How can I stop this site?

Until today when I entered "nfl.com", I got the web site of the National Football League. I surfing that site today and clicked the "go back one page button" at the upper left of the browser. I was taken to the "http://www.adtech.com/Home/" site. I couldn't get back to nfl.com. Since then, if I entered "nfl.com" in the location box and hit "enter", I was taken to "http://www.adtech.com/Home/". How can I get rid of this site so I can go to nfl.com? There is now an "A" icon in front of the nfl.com link in the drop down list of recent links.

Chosen solution

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

Hi,

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

If you would like to take a listing of the add-ons, changed preferences/settings etc. to quickly replicate the previous profile, please Copy all to clipboard (on the left of the reset button), and paste it into MS Office Excel, or OpenOffice/LibreOffice Calc, or notepad. However, it would be a good idea to check for the existence of the issue immediately after the reset.

I think I have solved my problem. I simply cleared all history. I cleared "Everything". The next time I tried to go to the National Football League site I was not rerouted to the adware site. Thanks to all who answered my question. I believe my problem is solved.
