am using linux wary puppy 5.3 had firefox 4.0.1 tried to use an interactive add on but was probly not compatible with this version then I had already lost my browser icon so had to open firefox thru the menu now it shows dowload in the downloads file but cant get it to open from there either am fairly new to linux and after wiping the ms OS i booted this 14 yr old HP pavillion from wary 5.3 ISO disc

Start Windows Task Manager. Select Processes. Then look for Firefox. If you find it, right click and select End Task. Wait a few moments, then try starting Firefox again.

Does Linux have the equivalent? What you want is to see what programs are currently running and, if necessary, shut it down.
