so my mac crashed and the hardrive is a goner. just got a new harddrive installed, old one cannot be recovered. is there anyway of recovering the bookmarks from firefox used in old hd?

If you did not sync to some other device, or backed up your bookmarks or profile elsewhere then unfortunately you appear to have lost your bookmarks.

Presumably you have no backup or image of your old hard disk drive. Even if the old drive does not boot is it possible to access it at all ? (As a 2nd internal hard drive, or installed in a caddy )

If you use(d) the Time Machine on your Mac then you can try to restore the places.sqlite file or a JSON backup (bookmarks-####-##-##.json) in the bookmarkbackups folder.
