I tried to follow your link to download older versions https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/ but do not understand how to install using that page I am currently running IE 10 only on my system, and have not attempted to download any firefox yet

Firefox 22 is no longer supported, as Firefox 27.0.1 is the latest release version.
