Why does thunderbird take a long time to load email messages?

For the last few days, whenever I try to select an email message, it takes at least 45 seconds to a minute to load the message. (Either in a pop up screen or the integrated window)

General functionality of the program is slow as well, when attempting to send, or compact files, etc.

The program is up to date, please help.

May the problem with the offline filesize or SYNC issue

You might need to compact your mail folders. Compacting the mail folders would increase the performance of Thunderbird. Here are some additional information on maintaining Thunderbird's performance:

Recent McAfee updates have caused this sort of problem. Is it or any other security program installed and set to scan mail folders?
