More than once, the contents of my message pane has suddenly gone blank. one minute I was viewing each email in the message pane beside it like normal, the next minute, the message pane was blank. From one time to the next, I can't remember how I restored it. It just happened again. I tried restarting (which I believe worked in the past) but no luck. I think what caused the problem this time -- and possibly last time too -- is clicking on a link in a particular message from a specific sender, linking to a document found inside a password-protected portal. I just want my message pane back! (and to prevent this from happening again if possible). What do I need to do?

I have noticed that when I receive emails that some of them are automatically tagged as NonJunk. Almost as if the sender did something to tag them before I receive them. Is that even possible?

I am assuming/hoping that this is not related to messages being 'marked' "As Not Junk", is that correct?

What, in Thunderbird, would auto-tag some (but not all) messages as NonJunk? Can I turn it off?

Thanks for your help

Kia Ora Koutou from Aotearoa New Zealand.

After several hours of sheer frustration, including reading a significant number of posts I am still without result.

Thunderbird keeps asking for my my password for both my SMTP and IMAP settings despite all of these being correct.

I have checked with my domain and email provider (mail.1stdomains.co.nz) and they inform me that it appears to be a thunderbird settings.

Checking the thunderbird settings they are correct including passwords, however, the mail client just refuses to download the mail providing a dialogue box with "login to account "<PRIVACY>" failed. Enter new password, Cancel, Retry.

Is there some way to fix this error?

I am having problems setting up an email account in TB. I already have ONE gmail account setup and it's currently sending/receiving fine. However, when attempting to setup my 2nd acct, I'm getting: 400. That’s an error. The server cannot process the request because it is malformed. It should not be retried. That’s all we know.

I can't for the life of me figure this out despite comparing both accounts' SERVER SETTINGS repeatedly.

Windows 10 home, Verizon email account. Getting the messages "sending of the message failed" and then "creating mail message" (and then nothing happens) ONLY when I try to send any attachment. This just started a few days ago after an update. I'm using version 128.2.3esr. Just prior to this, TB updated every time I opened the application, probably 4 times in a row. I've found the .msi for the edition just prior to the one I'm using. Can I simply install it over top of the existing and not lose anything. I've backed up my mail/settings into a zip file on my desktop. Thank you!

I have Thunderbird software version 128.2.3esr (64-bit). I have 5 email address accounts 1 with google.com and 4 with outlook.com. All work perfect except 1 of the outlook.com accounts. All the outlook.com accounts are configured the same (settings, account settings etc). The error message is always "pop3.server3.2: Got an error name=pop3PasswordFailed, the server said: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. 2 Pop3Client.sys.mjs:1576:18".I did not change passwords. In fact, I can go on internet to outlook.com email logon web page and access the email account perfectly, even though it fails everytime with Thunderbird. (it still is same password, never changed). Plese help, I have spent some time trying to solve on my own.

Why is Thunderbird on Windows so agonizingly slow and unresponsive after recent updates? I've checked my memory, CPU, disk usage, network, everything. I've rebooted. I've tried it on multiple networks. Same thing - agonizingly slow and unresponsive. I've been using Thunderbird for over 22 years, and it's always been wonderful. Now, it SUCKS! What happened? Does anyone know of a better email client for Windows? I've contributed to T-Bird several times, but I can't support these latest updates. It's barely usable now. Help!

I have several email accounts, and use the Unified Folders view.

Up until the latest release (128.2.3esr), when I pressed the "a" key, it would archive the highlighted message and highlight the next one down.

Since this release, it sometimes still does this, but regularly shows a message saying there aren't any messages, even though there are still some in my inboxes. No amount of clicking on anything makes any difference, I can click on an individual inbox or the "Inbox" node at the top, and still get the same message.

If I restart TB, it shows the messages fine.

Anyone know what's going on? Whilst restarting isn't the end of the world, it's annoying to have to do it multiple times a day.

On Win11 with all latest updates if that makes any difference.

Thanks

Hello, I love Thunderbird, but my new Macbook Air keyboard does not have an insert key (for overwriting). Is there any facility within Thunderbird for Mac for me to toggle this mode? (For instance, Word for Mac has the overwrite toggle in its bottom menu bar)? For deleting characters forward, I must use fn + backspace, but an insert or overwrite mode would so useful for general editing. Regardless, many thanks, Nick

When I try to open some old messages in my inbox, they no longer open correctly, but appear as computer code connected with emails from other messages. The same messages open correctly in my phone and in my backup Gmail inbox so are not lost, but I am concerned that my laptop may be infected, though a Norton 360 scan shows no issues. Can anyone explain what is going on and whether I should be worried?

When asked to re-enter the appropriate password I enter the never ending merry-go-round......I have 6 addresses. Whilst it is possible to access then via their specific accounts held with Microsoft this is time consuming, hence the preference of Thunderbirdb which up until now has been trouble free for approx 15 years. This unnecessary development makes me wonder why I only need a user naame aand password to access via Microsoft. I have tried every method kindly provided by other users to no avail. Can anyone provide the correct server setting for both IMAP and SMTP? As I have said these 'new' authentification/s are in my opinion tantamount to using a sledgehammer to crack a walnut. I hope my explantion makes sense? Surely I cannot be alone?

Hello Experts,

I am a long-time user and fan of Thunderbird (various platforms).

I am currently using Thunderbird v 128.2.3esr (64-bit) on a 2018 Mac Mini (specs below). I do not use the Calendar or Chat features of TB. TB is configured to use the "macOS Address Book" (i.e. Mac's "Contacts") - and this is a critical feature for me.

I recently upgraded from MacOS v12.7.6 (Monterey) to MacOS v14.7 (Sonoma).

Now there is a significant delay of at least 10 seconds (sometimes accompanied with the dreaded spinning beach ball) upon starting TB. The sequence is like this:

1) Start TB 2) Primary Password Required dialogue box appears instantly 3) After entering the password and hitting return to sign in TB "Home" window appears but is blank 4) After a 10 second delay (sometimes with the beach ball appearing) the TB window completely opens, populated in the normal manner. 5) TB then seems to operate normally.

I have read article "https://support.mozilla.org/bm/questions/1421395". I can confirm that if I "disable Thunderbird's access to Mac Contacts in Mac Settings" then there is no delay noted in step 4 above. So it seems the delay does result from having TB access the macOS Address Book.

BUT it is a critically important feature for TB to utilize the macOS Address Book (Contacts).

I sync Mac Contacts across devices via iCloud, so TB will have access to the current collection of addresses, and I need only use one application to maintain my contacts.

I can live with the startup delay, disappointing though it is, because I find TB to be the best email application.

I do not know if the same issue occurs with the recently released macOS 15.x (Sequoia) - and I'm not ready or willing to upgrade to that version for a multitude of reasons.

It would be nice if the wonderful developers would investigate and resolve this delay issue.

Comments, tricks, and pointers most welcome.

Thanks.

PS: Does anyone know if this issue persists with macOS 15.x (Sequoia)?
